At £20 ($30) a download for a month's service, a new iPhone product from TrafficMaster's International Rescue could be the priciest travel app around.
The launch of the app today by satnav/GPS firm TrafficMaster follows the recent launch of its International Rescue service on BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows devices.
International Rescue is an emergency and concierge service which connects users direct from their handsets to detailed information.
The emergency system works by allowing users to use their mobile to be connected to an operator in their home country to get assistance. The operator will then contact a local representative to deal with the emergency, such as notifying medical services.
Concierge services on the app work in a similar way, connecting users to an operator in the home country who can advise on details of services such as banking, shopping and attractions.
The operators use the connection to establish the exact whereabouts of the user.
TrafficMaster boasts representatives in 40 countries around the world, but has priced the app far higher than many of the other concierge-type services found elsewhere on the web.
A 12-month version of the service costs £65 ($95).
