Trip planning startup IWannaGoThere is starting to widen out from its core travel guide service with a push into mobile, boutique hotel deal with Splendia and web shop.
The trio of moves are the first from the UK-based service which launched in 2009 aimed at providing a user generated content platform for travellers to create trips and guides for fellow visitors.
The luxury hotel service has come about by way of a partnership signed with European travel site Splendia to include around 5,000 hotels in the IWGT system with access to the hotel site's booking system.
Each hotel includes rates and product description including images of each property.
A three-part online Shop will also officially this week, chief executive Maria Martinez says, covering mobile and PDF guides as well as IWGT merchandise.
The mobile product will launch initially with a free guide for the Android smartphones created for the Spanish capital of Spain, with others for New York, London, Amsterdam and Seoul expected to follow shortly.
Martinez the Madrid guide will remain free but subsequent mobile products will cost around $3.
Downloadable PDF guides to Madrid, Barcelona and Taipei are part of the shop launch this week, with a Euro 2.99 price tag attached.
With designs on creating an offline community of IWGT contributors and fans, users will also be able to buy stickers and badges for their travel luggage. A bag is apparently coming round the corner, too.
