Consolidation in the European online travel market this week as Tomorrow Focus, parent company of HolidayCheck, takes a 51% stake in Webassets, the parent of reviews specialist Zoover.
The two are joining forces with online travel and reviews portal HolidayCheck paying 21 million Euros for the shares with the remainder to be retained by Zoover commercial chief Bas Rasker and chief executive Stephan Bosman.
Zoover co-founder Erwin Rooymans is selling his shares but his company Netmatch will continue to provide technology to the review service.
Online weather service MeteoVista, acquired by Netherlands-based Zoover in 2009, is also part of the acquisition.
According to a statement the combined HolidayCheck and Zoover attract 35 million unique visitors a month and the company will now total more than 300 employees across the Netherlands, Germany, France, Poland and its headquarters in Switzerland.
Under the deal Zoover will add a booking engine to its service in the Netherlands by integrating technology from Tomorrow Focus subsidiary Tjingo.
The statement adds that the combined entity will assess the potential for new markets across the continent and particularly Eastern Europe.
