Glamping - or luxury camping - is seeing strong growth in the UK as some holiday makers stick closer to home during their vacations. The shift also coincides with an increase in amenities at the average campground, with many travelers seeing glamping as a true alternative to a city stay in a hotel.
The glamping trend has been driven by the millennial desire to seek out natural, more unique experiences without sacrificing comfort. This mirrors the "flash packing" concept that has seen the grimy backpacker of yore replaced with a tech-heavy young traveler that is connected via multiple devices as they travel around the world. Comfort is no longer sacrificed, and that luxury trend will continue as these travelers enter peak earning years.
As the number of venues offering glamorous camping have increased, startups have also popped up to serve the growing niche. After bootstrapping, the startup Glamping Hub netted $1 million to pursue its accommodation engine for these sorts of locations.
The following infographic breaks down how holidays have shifted closer to nature while also offering something memorable and luxe.
