A two-year old affiliate scheme by Expedia is gaining momentum across Europe, with the number of independent travel agents involved having increased massively in a year.
In the UK alone, Expedia says this week, 3,000 agents and another 900 other affiliate have signed up to the Travel Agencies Affiliate Programme (TAAP) in the last 12 months.
The scheme launched in October 2008 and has since been extended to other regions around the Expedia empire.
Expedia says it cannot disclose figures for the EMEA but the volume of agents using the service has increased by 50% since October 2009.
The addition of Spain in July and the Netherlands will have boosted the overall number, but the growth indicates that the programme has struck a chord with plenty of independent agencies around the continent.
The scheme was originally spearheaded by rising star in Expedia, Tamer Tamar, who left in June 2009 to run Ebookers in Europe.
