SOCIAL: Facebook and Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram, and countless other social networks, have turned people all over the world into instant publishers. Some of it useful, far too much of it is utter drivel. This is the levelling of the media playing field that the web we all love has created. But for some, 2013 was a sad watershed. Many people had their attention drawn halfway around the world to Egypt last week, though not due to further political unrest.
Images of the pyramids and the Sphinx covered in snow had emerged, and were being shared tens of thousands of times on Facebook and Twitter.
It wasn’t hard to see why.
Needless to say, the photos were bullshit.
