Travel technology company Comtec has developed a visual search interface to help provide inspiration for consumers and tailor holidays more effectively.
Instead of the traditional destination and date search users are presented with a Windows 8-style tiles with overall themes such as ski or sun and some topical suggestions such as Paris for Valentines Day.
Once consumers have used the visual search it will also highlight images from previous destinations they have enquired about as well as bring in insight from friends and family via Facebook to make results more personalised.
The system also enables users to switch to text-based search at any point in the research process.
A number of social travel focused sites have redesigned themselves to allow for a more visual search process in recent months.
Comtec is now looking for a travel company to pilot the technology as well as integrate it with its existing reservation and customer marketing systems.
NB: The visual search initiative was unveiled at Travel Technology Europe in London earlier this week.
