Online fraud prevention specialist Riskified has pulled together some of its data to provide a picture of where and how fraud is most likely to occur.
The good news is that 98% of online flight orders are legitimate and despite perceptions around proxy servers, three-out-of-four also seem to be fine, according to the report.
Other findings, as per the images below, reveal:
- The rate of fraud for single passenger bookings are twice as high for reservations for two or more travellers.
- Tickets bought nearer to departure date are more likely to be fraudulent.
- The rate of fraud for domestic travel is almost twice that of international travel.
- Bookings made via mobile devices are generally legitimate with the study finding 99% of flight ticket bookings to be safe.
