The commercialization of pretty much every avenue of life, both online and off, continues. The latest advertising innovation? Using vibrations to create advertising that can only be heard when resting against a train window.
The ads, being tested by BBDO Germany on behalf of broadcaster Sky Deutschland, come from an unusual place: the train window.
By using vibration technology, similar to the way Bluetooth headsets work, the ad can be transmitted silently.
Only when a person's skull is pressed against the window will the ad be heard - and the advert will also seem to come directly from inside the brain.
The ads are currently only being tested in Germany, and there are no plans on testing with affiliated broadcasters, such as BSkyB in the UK.
Are train windows everywhere soon going to lose their "restability?" Will plane windows soon be transmitting soothing sounds, journey information or in-flight ads?
The only thing for certain is that advertisers will continue to push the boundaries into unexpected - and likely extremely lucrative - means to advertise to the traveling public.
