Tripping, a social travel site connecting local hosts with travelers, received seed funding to fuel global expansion and marketing, the company says.
Quest Venture Partners led the funding round with a $450,000 investment.
Other funding from micro-venture capital players and angels is expected to "close shortly," bringing the round up to $1 million, Tripping says.
With the funding, Tripping, which debuted in beta in 2010 and now draws a membership from 130 countries, exits its beta phase, the company says. Tripping was featured in a TLabs Showcase here.
"Bootstrapping has been a fun challenge, but we're ready to take Tripping to the next level," says Jen O'Neal, co-founder and CEO of Tripping.
The Tripping team includes people with StubHub and Travelzoo pedigrees. It partners with universities and study abroad programs and competes with sites such as Triptrotting.
