Travelzoo Asia Pacific is expanding the Travelzoo Local Deals business by introducing it into Australia.
Dinner for two at the Catalina restaurant in Lyne Park, Rose Bay, for AUD110 was the inaugural deal, and Travelzoo Asia Pacific said 891 newsletter subscribers purchased vouchers for the offer since it debuted six days earlier.
Travelzoo Asia Pacific has more than 3 million email subscribers -- with nearly 600,000 in Australia -- and the Local Deals supplement other travel, entertainment and lifestyle offers, the company says.
Travelzoo Asia Pacific is a licensee of Travelzoo.
The introduction of Travelzoo Local Deals in Australia represents the start of the Travelzoo-branded Local Deals business in Asia Pacific.
Launched in August 2010, the Travelzoo Local Deals business had -- before the debut in Australia -- a presence in about 35 markets in the U.S., the UK and Spain.
Subscribers purchase vouchers for restaurants, spas and other local businesses and redeem them at the establishments.
Travelzoo gets a percentage of the face value of the vouchers from the local businesses, the company says.
Travelzoo Local Deals is a key part of Travelzoo's growth strategy and is an effort to cash in on the Groupon-like group-buying craze.
