Easy Taxi, Rocket Internet's mobile-based on demand taxi hailing company, has raised $40 million in Series D funding led by Phenomen Ventures, with participation from Tengelmann Ventures.
The Brazil-based company will use this new capital to expand its service in existing markets, improve its technology and also to scale operations.
Users of Easy Taxi will be able to hail a taxi by pressing a button in the app. Once a taxi is requested, the nearest taxi details (driver name and number, car model, picture, and plate) will be sent to the user.
The company's mobile apps are available for iOS, Android, and Windows OS platforms.
Competitors of Easy Taxi in Asia include GrabTaxi (raised $15 million recently), Uber and many regional players such as MoobiTaxi in Singapore, and OlaCabs (recently raised $42 million) in India.
Co-CEO of Easy Taxi, Dennis Wang, says:

"The expertise of our new investors aligns with our ambition to further increase our market share in Asia and consolidate our leadership in Latin America."
The company has more than 185,000 drivers in its system, of which more than 150,000 drivers were added just last year.
Founded in 2011, Easy Taxi currently operates in Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Asia - in 32 countries covering 162 cities globally - and serves " millions of rides" per month.
