Airports up and down the east coast in the US have faced severe operations problems over the past few days with heavy snow blizzards paralysing flights.
But both British Airways and New York's JFK will be quietly cursing the rise of social media after high-profile bureau chief in the city for the Economist, Matthew Bishop, found himself on a flight from the UK which was forced to sit on the taxiway for seven hours.
With seemingly little else to do but post updates to his Twitter account, Bishop's tweets illustrate how frustrating the situation became in the aircraft and then once inside the terminal building for a few hours afterwards.
