JetBlue and LAN Airlines implemented an interline agreement, enabling passengers to connect between dozens of U.S. cities and South America.
Travelers can now buy a single e-ticket combining travel on New York-based JetBlue and LAN Airlines, which has multiple hubs in South America, including Santiago, Chile; Guayaquil, Ecuador; and Lima, Peru.
With the interline relationship, travelers check-in, check baggage to their final destination and receive boarding passes for the entire journey.
Within weeks, the airlines say, travel agents will be able to book JetBlue-LAN flights through global distribution systems, and consumers will be able to purchase these flights through online travel agencies, LAN websites or by phoning LAN reservations.
Both JetBlue and LAN airlines use the SabreSonic reservations system, which facilitates their new interline agreement.
