SmarterTravel has changed its name from Hopjump and announced Series B funding of $9.5 million.
The investment is led by Link Ventures and Second Alpha, while existing investors are also involved in the round.
Digital marketing and travel content company Hopjump acquired a portfolio of travel companies, including SmarterTravel, from Tripadvisor in July 2020.
Jordan Staab, chief executive of SmarterTravel, says: “We’re very excited about this funding and the opportunities it gives us.
"We are already the go-to source of information for more than 7 million people, intelligently streamlining their access to information that helps them travel safer, stay more informed, and save money. By Q122 we intend to expand on relationships with our members and be the best way to book a hotel on the internet.”
He adds that the name change better represents what the portfolio of websites offers.
The investment will go towards recruitment and the development of new travel products.
Lisa Dolan, managing director, Link Ventures, says: “Most travel companies have focused on last-minute or discount travel. SmarterTravel is focused on optimizing the lifetime value of their customers and also offering the cheapest prices; this will be achieved with higher engagement, retention and cross-sells.”
Hopjump originally grew out of Link Ventures incubator, Cogo Labs.
Alongside SmarterTravel, Tripadvisor sold brands including Airfarewatchdog, Family Vacation Critic and Oyster to Hopjump last year.
