GrabTaxi hinted that a $65 million capital raise just six weeks ago was just the beginning - it has now got another $250 million
The South East Asia-focused taxi-booking mobile app has captured the quarter of a billion big ones from Softbak Corp, a Japanese mobile carrier.
The new round overshadows the $65 million it raised in October from Tiger Global, with participation from Hillhouse Capital and existing stakeholders Vertex Ventures and GGV.
It also marks a frenetic year on the fund-raising side of the company following an eight digit amount it got in April and a $15 million injection a few months later.
Executives also moved the headquarters of the business from Malaysia, where it was founded, to Singapore earlier this year.
The company claims to have some half a million users of its apps, 60,000 drivers signed up, and three bookings made every single second.
