Continental has a clever social media campaign under way.
The airline is asking travelers to follow @Continental on Twitter and then to tweet #justlanded and their Continental flight number upon arrival.
If you search for justlanded on Twitter or TweetDeck [choose your weapon], you'll see a steady stream of tweets like this:
By following the instructions, travelers enter a chance to win a weekly prize in the Just Landed Sweepstakes, which for the week of Dec. 13-19 was offering a one-year Presidents Club membership.
The sweepstakes and social media campaign began in late November and Continental has been picking up Twitter followers along the way and gets the added benefit of getting travelers to tweet a positive message about the Continental brand throughout the day.
As of this writing, Continental had 93,648 Twitter followers and 45,581 "likes" on Facebook.
In a bow to cross-channel marketing in social media, Continental's Facebook fan page has a Just Landed tab where it promotes the contest and the page enables Facebook fans to post a status update indicating they entered the sweepstakes.
In addition, a page on Continental.com has a tweet button, enabling travelers merely to insert their flights number with the already appended #justlanded hashtag to blast their Continental flight numbers to their Twitter followers.
The Continental.com page with the tweet button for #justlanded looks like this:
Continental didn't immediately respond to a request for information about how many Twitter followers they have added during the #justlanded campaign.
