American Express launched iPhone and Blackberry apps in partnership with TripIt, GateGuru and SeatExpert.
The American Express Travel App is free for U.S. cardholders [just enter your American Express user ID and password] and provides itinerary management from TripIt, information about amenities near airport gates from GateGuru, and the lowdown on airplane seats from SeatGuru.
In addition, the travel app includes a travel directory of major airline, hotels, car rental companies and cruise lines with click to call functionality.
An American Express spokeswoman says the travel directory is for informational purpose and is not paid advertising.
Just as airlines offer perks to frequently flyers, Amex is offering Travel App perks to Platinum cardmembers. They receive access to TripIt Pro, a subscription service, for free.
Using TripIT Pro, American Express Platinum cardmembers get flight alerts, alternative flight availability options and information about airport lounges which they can access because of their Platinum Card status.
The apps are available for download in the iTunes App Store, Blackberry App World or here on an American Express website.
While the American Express Travel App is geared for U.S. cardholders, corporate clients of American Express Business Travel can access another solution, mobileXtend.
mobileXtend uses itinerary management and notification services from WorldMate, Rearden Commerce and conTgo.
