Now that Expedia has apps developer Mobiata in its portfolio, the online travel agency says it will soon launch Expedia Hotels for the iPhone and iPod touch.
The app will be released worldwide, Expedia says, and will support 20 currencies.
Hotel apps these days are all about bo0king speed and Expedia says its upcoming Expedia Hotels app takes travelers in four taps from research to booking.
The app uses GPS to detect travelers' locations and they can see available hotels within walking distance or book any of the hotels that Expedia offers globally, the company says.
In additional to the usual maps and amenity details, Expedia Hotels offers consumer reviews from sister company TripAdvisor, which designates the highest-rated properties.
Expedia says Expedia Hotels is the first of several mobile initiatives it plans to introduce in 2011.
The OTA acquired Mobiata, which spearheaded the app, in November 2010.
Expedia previously launched TripAssist, which enables iPhone and iPad users to book, flights, hotels, cars and activities from Expedia's mobile website.
Expedia Hotels obviously represents a heightened focus on, well, hotels, which is where the money is.
