Brazil-based Easy Taxi, one of the few taxi bookings apps with a global footprint, has confirmed that it is "scaling back" in Hong Kong and Indonesia and has canned plans to launch a service in India.
A statement via Rocket Internet, the German e-commerce incubator firm which was an early investor in the business, said:

"Easy Taxi confirms that it is scaling down operations in Hong Kong and Indonesia in order to focus on other core markets. The app will continue [to be] operational in these countries as long as service levels are acceptable, and we are providing any necessary support for our local partners.
"India was not yet fully operational and we have simply decided not to continue pursuing the full launch."
Rocket said that Easy Taxi's core markets are Brazil and Colombia, the countries where it first started operating back in 2011. At the last count, it was active in 170 cities in 33 countries across Latin America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
For 2015, Rocket said that Easy Taxi is looking to increase the number of cities it operates in and work on customer service, hoping to generate a five-fold increase in bookings during the year.
The business has grown off the back of relatively modest funding rounds - in July it picked up $40 million of Series D funding, bringing its total to $77 million.
