UPDATE: The owners of the Waikiki Edition hotel filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, apparently foiling Marriott's plans to re-take the property, USA Today reports.
The tug-of-war over who will manage the hotel continues.

Talk about brand protection.
Marriott says it is in the process today of regaining control of management responsibilities at the Waikiki Edition hotel.
Here is the hotel website, under Marriott management and the Edition brand, and here is the website for the renamed and apparently ill-fated The Modern Honolulu under the management of Aqua Resorts until the transition back to Marriott is made supposedly by 2:30 p.m. today Honolulu time.
New York State Supreme Court justice Eileen Bransten today "ordered that Marriott shall be allowed to return to its management role at the hotel" Aug. 31 by 2:30 p.m. Honolulu time.
The hotel owner was temporarily restrained from installing hotel management other than Marriott, according to the judge.
The hotel owner, M Waikiki LLC, kicked out Marriott management earlier in the week over the owner's displeasure concerning Marriott's alleged lack of progress in expanding the Edition brand.
Marriott had ceased taking bookings for the property on Marriott websites when Aqua Hotels was installed as the new hotel manager.
The litigation in this dispute is ongoing.
The next hearing in the matter is slated for Sept. 7.
