Despegar, a Spanish and Portuguese language online travel agency servicing Latin America, signed on Accertify to provide fraud prevention services.
Accertify's fraud prevention and risk assessment solutions replace an internal solution that Despegar had been using.
The Accertify team includes a couple of former executives at Orbitz, where fraud in the first couple of years after launch cost the company around $1 million per month.
Mike Long, Accertify's chief product strategist, formerly was director of fraud prevention at Orbitz Worldwide, and Accertify CEO Jeff Liesendahl previously was an Orbitz vice president of finance.
Much of Accertify's expertise in developing a comprehensive solution to automate transaction-risk solutions grew out of the team's Orbitz experience, a spokeswoman says.
Long says while credit card adoption in Latin America and Mexico lags the U.S., but is growing.
Hence, Despegar needed to improve its fraud-prevention prowess.
"Like other countries, airlines and travel agencies seem to lead other e-commerce retailers with consumer use of the web to purchase," Long says.
Based in Miami, Despegar has a local presence in the U.S., Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela and Spain.
Accertify's travel industry clients include Southwest Airlines, Mexicana Airlines, JetBlue and ARC.
