Travel booking and payments company WeTravel has named Ted Clements as its chief executive replacing co-founder Johannes Koeppel.
Koeppel moves to the role of chief product officer for the company, which claims to have seen double-digit client and transaction volume growth since 2021.
“Since the original idea for WeTravel came to my mind nearly 10 years ago, I’ve committed to building an evolving platform to support any travel organizer or tour operator in their operations. After six years of incredible success, we’re at the crux of needing both a strong product team and strategic marketing and sales guidance to push WeTravel into its next growth phase,” says Koeppel, who remains as a board director.
“Creating the CPO role gives me the opportunity to continue my decade-long commitment to building the platform and servicing the clients who use it; in doing so, it has opened the CEO role to Ted, who has a incredible success history of leading and scaling sales, marketing, and customer service teams in the travel industry.”
Clements was formerly chief operating officer and acting CEO at FareHarbor, the tours and activities technology provider owned by Booking Holdings.
As CEO at WeTravel, Clements will be responsible for the company’s strategy as it seeks to double transaction volume in 2023.
WeTravel, which started as a group trip planning and payment service, raised $27 million earlier this year in a Series B round.
The company said the funds would go towards adding fintech products for consumers and travel business owners.
