Travel content platform Live the World has acquired rival company Itinari for an undisclosed amount.
A statement from Belgium-based Live the World says Itinari attracts five million visitors a year and provides travel stories and tips from local residents.
Live the World says it is also seeking fresh funding, having secured €300,000 in pre-seed investment in May 2021.
The company now plans to combine its digital interactive map with city trips and other activities with Itinari's travel stories content.
Joris Vanherp, CEO of Live the World, says: “With this acquisition, we see an enormous increase in scale where we are able to offer our users a much wider range of unique experiences. It allows us to make great strides in technology and to build stronger partnerships with travel companies.”
Nicolas Casula, founder of Itinari, who will remain as an advisor to Live the World, says: “The synergy between the two companies was natural because of our common goal: serving travelers worldwide with authentic, inspiring content. Itinari's content will act as a lever for Live the World's ambition to match every user with their ideal journey.”
Following the acquisition, Seeder Fund, 4Ventures and Sambrinvest will become shareholders of Live the World.
To date, investments totaling €1.5 million have gone into both companies.
Live the World now plans to increase visitor numbers to 10 million by 2025 as well as improve personalization of its user recommendations.
