Flexible apartment-living company Landing has introduced Standby, a new membership category that provides access to furnished apartments within Landing’s nationwide network for a lower price. The flat rate of $1,295 per month covers rent, utilities and internet. As the name suggests, Standby members need to be ready to move with just three days’ notice.
Standby membership provides remote workers with an affordable housing solution that encourages flexibility, exploration and adventure, according to Landing.
People “want to take advantage of the ability to move around and explore new places” while watching their spending, says Bill Smith, Landing’s CEO and founder. “We launched Standby to meet that demand, allowing renters to unlock the freedom and flexibility of Landing at a lower cost.”

Founded in 2019, Landing is a membership-based network of furnished, flexible-lease apartments across the United States. The Birmingham, Alabama-based company secured $125 million in Series C funding in August.
Standby members have access to apartments anywhere in the Landing network except New York and California. The Standby member’s apartment will remain available for standard members to book. When that happens, Standby members are given just three-days’ notice to transfer to a new apartment in any available neighborhood or city.
Likewise, Standby members only have to give three days’ notice before moving. Meanwhile, standard members are required to give two weeks’ notice. Standard members also pay a $199 annual membership fee plus monthly rent, according to Landing.
Standby members are required to stay within the network for 30 days. There are no membership fees or early termination fees, Landing says.
